Jazz Palma: Andrés Hayes Quartet

The Jazz Lounge presents Argentine tenor saxophonist Andrés Hayes on Thursday, 1 October, accompanied by Pep Lluís García on drums, Pierre Bauzerand on piano and Joan Garcias on double bass. Doors open at 21:30 and the concert begins at 22:30, bringing an international quartet to the programme of Jazz Palma.

Born in Buenos Aires in 1978, Hayes is a saxophonist and composer with a career spanning original music, improvisation and jazz standards. His musical development has also taken him to Spain, where he studied with respected Spanish jazz musicians Perico Sambeat and Jesús Santandreu, later continuing his training with American saxophonist George Garzone.

Hayes has released several recordings as a bandleader, including El silenciero, Desde un jardín, El imperio de las luces, Marea Alta and Siete. His 2017 project Alondra brought his quintet together with a string orchestra for interpretations of jazz standards, highlighting the melodic side of his playing alongside his work as a composer.

For this Jazz Palma concert, Hayes performs in a classic quartet format. Pep Lluís García takes the drum chair, with Pierre Bauzerand on piano and Joan Garcias on double bass. The acoustic combination of tenor saxophone, piano, bass and drums keeps the focus firmly on interplay and improvisation.

The Jazz Lounge is one of Palma’s dedicated spaces for live jazz, tucked into Carrer dels Apuntadors close to La Lonja. Its intimate setting and regular concert programme make it a familiar name among Music Events Mallorca, particularly for audiences looking for smaller live performances in the centre of the city.
