Es Fossar in Sineu hosts the return of the Mercadet de Segona Mà on Saturday, 26 September, with more than 40 stalls dedicated to second-hand finds, clothing, books, decoration and vinyl. Running from 10:00 to 14:30, this edition of Markets Mallorca combines vintage and pre-loved shopping with live music and local beer in the centre of Sineu.
The market is organised by Lowcost Cultura in collaboration with El Ropero and the Ajuntament de Sineu. Rather than focusing on new products, the concept is centred around giving existing objects another life, with stalls covering everything from clothes and accessories to records, books and pieces for the home.
Music is a significant part of the morning. Selector Porcorosso provides the soundtrack, while Peti-roy & Dubgorrians perform live, giving the market more of a social Saturday atmosphere than a conventional flea market. A beer truck from Mallorca’s Breaking Brou brewery is also part of the programme.
For anyone following Markets Mallorca beyond the island’s traditional weekly produce markets, the Mercadet offers a different side of Sineu. The town is already closely associated with market culture: its historic Wednesday market dates back centuries and remains one of the best-known traditional markets on the island.
This Saturday edition, however, is specifically about second-hand culture. More than 40 stalls are announced, creating space for vintage pieces, used books, vinyl and unexpected finds rather than the fruit, vegetables and local produce associated with Sineu’s regular Wednesday market.
The combination of second-hand shopping, music and drinks also makes this Mallorca market more than a simple morning shopping event. With a live concert and DJ soundtrack running alongside the stalls, it sits somewhere between a flea market and a small cultural gathering, with music playing an important part in the programme.
Among Markets Mallorca, Sineu is particularly well suited to this kind of event, with Plaça des Fossar forming one of the historic focal points of the town’s market tradition. The event runs for four and a half hours on Saturday morning, finishing at 14:30.
