CineCiutat screens Amazomania on Monday, 28 September at 19:00, adding a thought-provoking documentary to this month’s Movies Palma programme. Directed by Swedish filmmaker Nathan Grossman, the 93-minute film revisits a 1996 expedition into the Brazilian Amazon and the encounter between a Brazilian official, a Swedish journalist and the isolated Korubo people.
At the time, footage from the expedition was presented as a remarkable story of discovery. Almost three decades later, Amazomania returns to those images with a much more critical perspective, examining what the encounter meant for the Korubo and questioning the way their story was originally documented and presented to the outside world.
